Gary Cogill is an Emmy award-winning journalist, speaker, producer, host, voice-over actor, and consultant.

For 24 years, Gary served as the film critic for WFAA-TV in Dallas (ABC), reviewing more than 10,000 films and conducting more than 20,000 interviews with industry leaders. Through the years, Gary sat down with the biggest names in the business, including Robert DeNiro, Meryl Streep, Stephen Spielberg, and Clint Eastwood.

After leaving WFAA-TV, he co-founded the Dallas, Texas-based film production company Lascaux Films. His Lascaux Films credits include, “Words And Pictures,” starring Clive Owen and Juliette Binoche; “Believe Me,” starring Alex Russell and Nick Offerman; “Refuge,” starring Krysten Ritter and Brian Geraghty,” and “The Starck Club,” a feature documentary on the legendary 1980s Texas nightclub.

His favorite films include “To Kill A Mockingbird,” “Schindler’s List,” and “Waiting For Guffman” (which he considers a comic masterpiece.)  Some of Gary’s favorite moments include an evening with Oscar-winning composer John Williams conducting the Ft. Worth Symphony Orchestra, a groggy Chuck Liddell falling asleep during a live television interview on “Good Morning Texas,” and countless hilarious interviews with Robin Williams, Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson, Denzel Washington, Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, Judi Dench, Anthony Hopkins, George Clooney, Julia Roberts… the list is endless.

Gary is a much sought-after speaker and moderator, hosting on stage “Evenings With” John Travolta, Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, David Mamet, Stephen Sondheim, Ken Burns, Danny Glover, Brooke Shields, Martin Sheen, Rob Lowe, Peter Bogdanovich, Marvin Hamlisch, Brad Bird,  and more.

If Gary’s voice is familiar, it’s because he has been the voice for hundreds of characters for radio, television, and animation over the course of his career.

He is an avid fly fisherman, a voracious reader, considers cooking an art form, and jogging a lifesaver. He grew up in Portland, Oregon, where he watched “Lawrence of Arabia” four nights in a row as a ten-year-old.

Gary is the proud father of two artistic daughters, grandpa to twins, and is married to Sommelier Hayley Hamilton Cogill,  who travels the world chasing the grape. Hayley is a Certified Specialist of Wine and Sommelier, wine writer, podcast host, and television contributor. She is also the founder of Dallas Uncorked and the author of the award-winning blog “Red Wine With Breakfast.”  Between wine and movies, they consider each other a perfect pairing.

  1. Gary, You promised to narrow your 2016 Oscar Picks down to one in each category. I have been googling and perhaps I have missed it. Is it posted online?

I saw 5 movies this weekend… in crunch time before Sunday.

    Thanks much!
