The Film: “Wine Country”

“Wine Country” is exactly what you think it is, a girls trip comedy where the Napa wine pours freely and the irreverent dialogue rolls off the tongue indiscriminately. Amy Poeler stars and directs her friends, Maya Rudolf, Tina Fey, and Rachel Dratch in what amounts to a fast & loose 50th birthday celebration.

If you have ever spent a week-end in Napa, you have likely seen groups of women just like those in “Wine Country.” Usually, they arrive in the form of a moms get-a-way or a bachelorette progressive tasting, complete with driver and van.

Yes, the ladies have a lot to say, most of it based on frustration with their personal lives and alcohol is the agent that brings it all to the surface. There are some funny lines and funny moments in this film

“Wine Country” is not about the nuances or complexity of wine or even an expose’ on the wine industry. It’s merely the setting for females to speak the truth, have fun, do a few embarrassing things together, patch up some differences, and head back home.

That doesn’t mean you won’t see some bottles you know, some places you might have visited, and some familiar tasting rooms. It’s just silly fun and can be found on Netflix
